The Lawn Bowlers

I still recall them in the park.
They seemed removed
And set apart from the confusion of shade
Sprawled beneath the oaks.
Dressed all in white,
With the occasional straw hat
Catching the light,
They looked almost
Like candles on a green vestment.
I had no way of knowing
Whether or not their lives were equally upright
But at that moment,
As I sat there on the blanket,
Filled with you
And the picnic basket of our teenage hearts
Overflowing,
I felt their presence.

I love this, Bob!  It made me think of those famous paintings, and I'm so artist illiterate I can't name the artist, but it seems it would be a Frenchman.  Anyway the paintings I'm thinking of are:

one--a beach scene with a few people on the shore, standing barefoot in the water, yet fully clothed, ladies holding a parasol

the other--gentlemen and gentleladies on an estate doing croquet, I think

pristine scenery and people

I don't know if I've described them well enough for you to know which I'm talking about, but suffice it to say, your poem is a work of vivid art, though words are all you've used.  You have captured my heart with them and my mind's eye.

"...like candles on a green vestment...."

you have an artist's eye,
and a poet's heart...

well done Sir!
