May I have This Dance (may be a repost - not sure)

"May I have this dance?"
I asked. My heart I hoped
In every word
She sat demure midst friends
Wet rings and glasses
Making orbits on the table

"May I have this dance?"
I asked. My heart flopping
With each syllable I uttered
Her look I prayed
Told of the desire to escape
From the cheap wine
Inane humor
Friends dying of ennui

"May I have this dance?"
I asked.
I finally got the words out
Couldn't tell if I mumbled
Stumbled, or was loud enough
To be heard

But I smiled as she looked up
And her eyes radiated light
She took me in
I took her up
And our feet
Never touched
The floor

The first duty of love is to listen.

...and one, two, three,
one, two, three...

or is a Tango
the dance to be?

or should a Rumba
or Foxtrot
which may do

all as long
as I dance
with you....

Ahhh, a poem of elevation . . . or was that levitation?

Enjoyed this, Wil.

Bill--Somehow this makes me think of my younger years...with the boys on one side of the room, the girls on the other...and everyone wanting to dance, and everyone afraid to ask.

The last dance is spoken for but I'll gladly save one of the other for you.

Ahhhhhh, that's beautiful!  I just loved this.   Tender emotions of hope, fear, and magic!      My compliments, Wilfred!

Every time I start out to post a reply to your collective responses - I'm still on page one - (I do 100 per) - so I'm giving in and responding now  -thank you all = I don't think I did anything so remarkable - all any of us need do - is dig back into memory - as Martie indicated - - that's just how I did it - then add a bit of present day fantasy.

try it - you'll like it ~S~
