~*~ And Still The Ocean Prays ~*~

Be still...really listen down by the sea,
Early morn, can hear the ocean’s harbored breathing?
Each breath exhaled, purges some sorrow.
In anger, her loud cries reverberate off rocks.
She sighs, but still the ocean prays.

Her tears wash my footprints from the sand,
Replacing them with disgusting debris of darkness.
Black whispers of discontentment bubble to her surface.
But still such sweet melodies reverberate from her womb.
She sighs, and still the ocean prays.

On windy days she loudly sings in tune and dances,
On calm days, sunsets blanketing her, make hearts smile.
Sensations of peace and serenity she sends to your mind.
She hopes to find that place of love in your soul.
She sighs, and still the ocean prays.

She prays for all life beneath, suckling her breast,
In anguish, each day is spent reaching out to you in despair.
The sea silently cries, through stormy, violent tears,
With arms outstretched in prayer, rising from the deep.
She sighs, and still the ocean prays.

Her tide now sent to make a mark on our conscience.
She calms to silence once more, and weeps.
She prays to keep her breath clear for all her sealife.
She prays to be unpolluted and safe from harm.
She sighs, and still the ocean prays.

I an so very still and, I listen down by the sea,
I see all her enemies, and I suddenly feel a tear,
I walk to her shore, bare-footed; sadly I wonder,
Who holds vigil for her and the creatures of the ocean?
I sigh, feel a salt water tear, and I say a prayer for her.

~*~

It really saddens me to see all the pollution down by the ocean seawall I walk.  We are exterminating our own resources in ignorance.

Beautiful in every way, and yes I share your concern for our enviroment, it a shame the way so many don't seem to care what they do to it.

THE Tom Hanks?  You run in wonderful circles, my dear, and provide an ever-present message that my generation has been trying to clean up for over 30 years....

WayoutWalt ~*~ Was in Texas last year, darn near died from that heat - the ocean breeze filters through my front window, and I love the ocean.  Thank you for reading.

Sunshine ~*~ LOL   Temporary brain burp!  Steve Hanks, guess I was thinking of "my man" there! he he

Joyce ~*~ Sorry missed you - we do - we do, their are volunteers that do this on an ongoing basis and truly we sing their praise in Vancouver anyway.  Being a seaport, and all the cruise ships and import/export they have their job cut out for them.  We lost two whales last year right out front here.  Rambling sorry.....thank you for reading.

Suetang ~ Being a lover of nature yourself, it is a very sad situation indeed.  You have to see it in Australia as well, the disrespect for the water is terrible.  Thank you for reading and helping an old lady up on her soapbox!

Great poem... it describes beautifully the pull the sea has on us and its calming effect... as well as the trash defiling it.

Excellent message my friend.  I think all too often we take the ocean and wonders of Mother Nature for granted.  It is a shame that most will continue to do so until there is nothing left.  Then they will be the ones wondering what happened.  A loved this!!

Lone Wolf ~ I can't thank you enough for your comment - it says it all!  We are in fact our own worst enemies, when it comes to eliminating all that surrounds us.  Thank you.

Wonderful message here Mysteria...
and a timely piece with Earth Day not too far off...
I live in the midwest...and I have never had the pleasure of seeing a ocean or beach ..
and the thought of deliberate dumping into such a gift and taking it so for granted sickens me.
well done poetess ...
and I LOVE that picture, it is so cool

It's such a clever innocence with which you show myself to me
As if you know how it feels to never be who you wanted to be

Janet Marie: I can't image my life without the salt water breeze, feeling salt on my tongue when I go for a walk, listening to the birds, and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. It is I that thank you for reminding me how very blessed I am as this is within walking distance from my home.

As the swells of music swelled, I heard the ocean gently lapping at my feet and meditated on our ignorance - can we blame her for winter of anger?

"I am not now that which I have been."

Julian: Makes you wonder doesn't it?  Perhaps your words are not far off, the swells are in anger?
