All the Birds
Virginia Salter

All the birds in town
come to eat and play
they cling to every perch
in the morning of the day.

Their need and greed profound
they wish to eat their fill
yet others clamor for a  break
to eat and then be still.

I watch from deep within
in silent, soft repose
enjoying all their frenzy
and the beauty of their clothes.

Clad are they in yellow
black stripes about their wings
darting to and fro
dancing as on springs.

Now if you can imagine
these delightful, tiny creatures
spouting words so cross
as to compromise their features,

Well then these are they
who cavort and curse their foe
wanting most to horde
all the food that they can stow.

It is a joy to me
to watch them in their labors
seeking sustenance of life
from my lilliputian favors.

Thanks SEA!  This piece started out to the tune of "California Dreamin'" though I don't know if it continues to fit or not as I don't know the entire song or tune by heart.

I appreciate you reading!

Very lovely and light Spring piece, I really loved it!  I love feeding the birds, and do all year, but this time of the year, they certainly are storing up - this the nesting season!  Nice poetry VAS.

Emjoyed this one. I just moved, and my new home has trees as opposed to the stark barrenness of the one before. And I have found it delightful to watch the birds. I have lots of mocking birds, but most special are the two Blue Jays that come to visit everyday.
Thanks for this one, makes me appreciate these little creatures all the more.

Virginia, I can just picture your birds, and love the idea that you wrote it to "California Dreamin'" ~ John Phillips would get such a kick from it.

Funny, isn't it, how their behaviour mimics that of humans at times. Thanks for this!
