It’s just salt

salt
worthy,
once,
of its weight
in gold

encompassing
the earth
in waters blue

brackish in areas
where it’s
lost its hue

briny in foam
of white
a clue

sometimes to see a
mate in shaker form
that adds some spice
beyond the norm

it’s just salt

from life we’re
formed

can’t live without
we’re told

to think that
it is crystalline in
nature

and soluble

to be known as a weighted
valuable

or refreshing wit

you’d think that
salt was the “it” of “it”

but all she knew
when she looked at you
as you walked away

was that you salted
your words so heavily
like an old mine
chock full of gold for fools

and even for awhile
you were the salt of
her earth

so as she watched
you walk
away

it crossed her
mind, how
strange,

that the taste of
the liquid
tear to
her
lips

would make her
think yet
of you

So deep and it makes absolute sense too. It is so truthful in the telling here my Lady.

I totally agree with PK. You have captured "Salt" for all it is.

I like this so much, especially that priceless ending!  It makes me want to do my next column about salt for next week's newspaper, wait, no, my column won't be out until the week after that.

Anyway, thanks for sharing this profound piece wonderfully crafted, Lady in White.
