COMPLACENCY

I must attest, emotions slave,
Wells inside me an open grave.
I languish that which cannot be,
And wonder what's become of me.
A man, once proud, I still recall
How sick and silently a fall
From grace can tip the weighted scales
Justice so readily avails.

Reaching for Hope as all else dies
Before the dusk of dreaming eyes,
I hold the grail to my lips
Discounting life that slowly drips
To stains of red on collars, white,
And darkness visioned within light,
As every chance before me falls
And every inclination stalls.

For deep within my sorrows, bound,
I think about the love I've found,
While in a dreamless moment spent,
Another day has come and went.
There, only Sadness should awaken
From ambitions, ‘er forsaken;
Those early on glimpses of truth
I so clung to throughout my youth.

And what of Need?  That dire charm
Who lays the seed to no alarm
Of conscious thought, while deep within
The love we've sought becomes our sin!
There stands no joy in her decline,
Nor clamors Grief by her design.
She lives, solely the afterthought
Of passions bled and dreams forgot.

Michael Anderson

But dreams of those who dream as I,
Aspiringly, are damned and die.

There is much to admire here, Michael. Perhaps this time I should simply say, "Well done."

Your ever dichotomous work is the essence of hopeful lament, my friend... Nice to see you writing...

Few can touch this level of emotional bleeding set to rhyme.
M, those first 2 verses took my breath away ...

"I must attest, emotions slave,
Wells inside me an open grave."

"To stains of red on collars, white,
And darkness visioned within light,"

the depth of the express, the ache of the emote.
the things I see of myself in the words...
sometimes I think I should have the word
Complacent tattooed on my forehead *S*...

"While in a dreamless moment spent,
Another day has come and went."

oh how well I know ...
superb writing and so great to find your name here this morn.
take care gifted poet of the dark

"And darkness visioned within light"

ya know that reflection sends the light back

oh you speak to me in riddles
and you speak to me in rhymes
my body aches to breathe your breath
your words keep me alive

I've been there, Michael, it ain't a good place to be, I called my years of complaceny
the "dead years."

Truly felt as though once I came through them, I had been dead (numb) for at least 2 years, 2 years lost.

Michael, it seems this was penned for the way I am feeling now. This, as is all your work, is marvelous.

You have such a beautiful command of language Michael, I seem to just drift along in your words, and wonder how you've yet again captured so many of my own thoughts. Life so often takes us on such a different path than that which we dreamt.  Wonderful phrasing and flow in this piece, I very much enjoyed your sentiments.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Claire, good to see you again.  I take a well done from you as a very high compliment you know.

Panne,  It's nice to meet you.  I'm glad you enjoyed the piece.  Please allow me to give you a belated welcome to Passions.

Nan, It feels good to actually be writing for a change.  Maybe there's hope for me after all...

Janet, I may never understand the light some of you see in me or my writings, but nonetheless, I'm glad you do.   It's good to see you here again too.  Missed ya.

Sunshine & suthern, thank you very much to two of my favorite people in the world..

Corinne - "dead" about sums it up in a nutshell, doesn't it.  I have never felt so aimless in all my life.  Hope it passes soon.

Sharon,   maybe we should email some poetic challenges to each other the way we used to do way back when...  Who knows, maybe a little mind stimulation can get us both out of a rut.

Sue, Wow - another new face.  It's a pleasure to meet you too.  I'm glad you enjoyed the poem and let me also give you my sincerest  welcome to Passions.

Kit, I never really expected my dreams to come true per say, but when one seems to stop dreaming altogether, the world sure does become a lonely place, doesn't it?  I'm certainly glad you liked it, though I'm sorry you can relate to it.

Thank you all for the comments.
Michael
