Man, I must have caught some poetic fever cause, I'm releasing two poems on the same night, something I haven't done in a long time. Anyways, this piece was inspired by the song "Reelishymn" by my favorite MC, Ras Kass....Ras Kass is a great underground MC that's struggling for commercial sucess despite the fact, that he's better 90% of the competition....he raps about religion, politics, struggles to fame, etc.....he's has a large vocabulary and he's one of the few MC's to have a degree...he's very intelligent and that's why I like him....I did good bit of revising on this too...anyways, I hope y'll enjoy the poem.....peace! Like the sun in the sky, my career is fixing to set as money barely comes by, for a rap artist such as I as, I got skills in heavy abundance, but my fate, been reduced to a low rate, while my peers, make music that's redundant as their rivers of cash, flow great because, it's all about the money so, it's quantity over quality as good intentions are microscopic, to swell and fat pockets, as it's easier to stagnate and flop, than it is, to elevate to the top, and it's a shame, that some artists in this rap game, only care about the women, money, and fame, and neglect the projects, from where they came when they get rise, from ashy to classy. I give a damn about a platinum plaque, I just wanna get paid, and recieve respect from true hip-hop fans, for all the worthy music I've made, as I'm depressed, drinking a bottle of henny, thinking about the future of my son Jimmy, while avoiding that feeling dancing in my heart of deciding whether or not, to abandon my art cause, when I make a commercial song, the true hip-hop fans think I'm wrong but, when I make an underground classic the masses, by pass it, so basically, I'm trapped in rap's casket. Who can I blame, for these thought waves, that flow through my brain, keeping me from going insane, as I'm a dope lyricist, a hope therapist, that drops knowledge, like an anthropologist but, they don't wanna hear anything complex, all they wanna hear, is drugs, money, and sex. They don't wanna hear something essential, something that helps your mental, they just wanna hear something more conventional as I refuse, to forfeit my artisic integrity, for more money from making a pop-rap melody, in other words, I refuse to sell out my hip-hop roots, in pursuit of more clout, as I just want enough money, to live my life in security but, it's alright though as I've accepted, to how subjected life goes and how rough life can be as I'm in this abyss, of unhappiness cause, of my immense passion to emcee but no matter what, I will continue to bless the mic, with immaculate precise. Good message Nate...the hits are not necessarily the good quality songs...although some do slip through... I think when an artist has a hit it gives him an opportunity to be true to himself and that is when an artist can really shine...no one likes rejection....James |

Thank you Jimmy for responding...I figured not much people would respond to this one cause, it's about rap, a type of music that few peple on this website seem to like. [This message has been edited by Nate Dogg (edited 03-30-2001).] |
