Fisgard
Virginia Salter

Fisgard, oh, Fisgard
no retirement for thee
standing high, a beacon spry,
in faithful guard of sea.

Lady Victoria
relies, in full, on you
sending, receiving
all ships from ocean’s blue

In gleaming white you stand
Red-capped with pride.
Your spiral staircase rises
gently upward deep inside

Gulls, kingfishers
dive and dart about,
Pan above your history
as waves flow in and out

Oh light of majestic presence
I stand in awe of you.
Proud, clean, Sentry, you rise
red,white amid the blue.

This is great. We have a light house on an island just off our coast but it no longer is used.

You did a wonderful job on this one - I have seen this lighthouse many times, and the museum there as well. There is just something about the calmness and mystery of the sea that continues to always draw me. I loved this poem.

Thanks, all! And Mysteria, I'm so happy you've seen this one. It is so pristine because it's beautifully maintained. The day was a sunny one as well, adding to the delight of it awesome beauty. I do so wish my scanner worked, well I wish it was installed and it worked. I got some fantastic photos of it I'd love to share here with this poem.
