Things that Fall Apart
(for A, M, and that field next door)

It's the endless rows
of fields that bring back
the past, the endless rows
of fields and the quiet
conversations in the dark.

There used to be a time when they
played baseball here in this field.
Not any old baseball though,
but the real kind of baseball,
with ghost runners and tennis balls.

Ghost runners,
they're all that run
these bases anymore.

Yeah, they used to play
baseball here but now
they've split it in two,
two very distant pieces
and I'm the only one left,
remembering games of baseball
and lamenting the things
that fall apart.

(written spontaneously for memories of times long ago and things that fall apart)

(well, not so spontaneously anymore I guess, but still, for A, M, and that field next door)

to be with you...
I've tried to hide my passion,
but it's just no use...
piece by piece I lose it
when you walk into the room...

Ryan, very nice and brought to mind the field down the street where childrens echoes can be heard no more but no one knows why baseball(pop Warner etc) isn't played there anymore.  Panne

I, too, have such a field and it will live forever in my heart and the deep recesses of my mind.  Memories of home runs, torn trouser knees, striking out Babe Ruth on a 3-2 count with the bases loaded, 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, at home to a sold out hysterical crowd.

Thanks for the memories.

Thanks everybody for the responses.  I'd almost forgotten I'd posted this one.  Funny how things pop up out of nowhere after so long.  But yeah, thanks for the comments.  I appreciate them.
