Morning

The night sleeps
as
morning wakes
and pushes back
the leaden gray of
dawn.

Birds in cheerful song
go about their tasks
of building nests
and feeding young.

A slight,
but steady breeze,
bends the grasses,
stirs the leaves of trees,
causing
them to sing.

The air is filled with
the scent
of living things.

I raise my face to
the sun,
close my eyes
and
breathe in this
life of mine.

On my back,
I watch the lazy
clouds
as they move and
change shape.

I used to do this
often
as a child.

So much we forget
as we
get older
and so very much
we take for
granted.

Just one morning
this is out of
many,
but one to take the
time
to cherish my
existence
and
to appreciate this
living earth.

Michael--If everyone would do this, I think the world would be a more peaceful place...this is beautiful. (going out back now to lay and look at sky) Thanks for the inspiration!

Michael, this is beautiful. I love to watch the mornings wake up, but that's usually cause I've been up all night!

Your so right, loved this, it does bring me back to when I was a child how often we reflected on the beauty around us, I often think about it now just don't take the time to soak it up. Beautiful poem

Martie,
I'm glad you liked this one.  Thanks. Did you go out back, or were you only kidding?

Trillium,
I'm happy you enjoyed this one and do so appreciate you stopping by for a read.  Thank you.

Dee,
Thank you for reading this piece and for the nice words, sweet friend.  You're up all night?  So am I?  Want to be up all night together?    ((((hugs)))) to you.

Rosebud,
It pleases me that you thought of this small poem as beautiful.  Thank you. :-)
