In the space between moments

0 posted 2001-03-25 10:55 PM

~Inspired by the trouble in the Balkans and throughout the world that never seems to go away...perhaps one day everyone will see how petty all this fighting is and how much pain it brings to everyone~

Pallid, tattered wings
Rest soiled, lifeless, broken
Against these shoulders...
My soul is carved into hollows
Where light no longer ripples
And faith no longer reaches me
~The spark of promise is dark~
I turn my face away from the reflections
Of ethereal dignity
Still lingering in my thoughts...
For absent are all things sacred.

Celestial brightness in ruin
As smog curls carelessly above
And anger rages below
~Loneliness evolving into madness~
All the simplicities essential
To holding us together
As one life, one spirit, one reverie
Are but ashes trampled underfoot
While we run from each other.

The starkness of these skies
Bleed sorrow onto our Earth
~The droplets sting upon my hands~
This body crumples--shattered--
For change in thought is slow
And the eyes of the innocent cloud fast
When life is mercilessly ravaged.

Illusions of comfort weaken
When the truths are in flamboyant show
~The everyday angels are few~
But if we can aspire
To hold our heads high in honor
Of this soil and of our kin
Perhaps we can still heal our wings
And pull from the absence
All things held sacred.

I loved your images in this poem! You said it was less flowery, but it has such an edge without. I can see everything painted in harsh shades of gray and bloody scarlet.

"But if we can aspire
To hold our heads high in honor
Of this soil and of our kin
Perhaps we can still heal our wings
And pull from the absence
All things held sacred."

Beautiful, my dear... the world can hope to heal its wings and fly again...

"And every state of mind, left to itself, every shutting up of the creature within the dungeon of its own mind - is, in the end, Hell" - C.S. Lewis

Krista~
This is a poignantly fine piece of writing.

'All the simplicities essential
To holding us together
As one life, one spirit, one reverie
Are but ashes trampled underfoot
While we run from each other.'

Unfortunately, we do not seem to be able
to learn how to keep peace within our grasp.
So sad ... always so sad.

Well said, poetess.

excellent. . . I really love the images that you used here. . .

everyday angels are everywhere. . . we just don't always see them. . .

I've tried to hide my passion,
but it's just no use...
piece by piece I lose it
when you walk into the room...
