I cannot say much for the sea
except it was the color of milk
and tossed like churned butter
ribbons of silken moonlight.

Water receded from sand
and ran back into the sea
leaving my feet covered
with glistening crystals.

I watched a sand crab desperately trying to flee
and listened to gulls hidden somewhere
in the darkness above.

No, I can't say much for the endless sea,
a fine salt spray splashing over basaltic rock
setting poetic hearts and spirits free
to wander across vast shores.

Churning endlessly with a smell
you cannot forget, memories
of another time - a love you set free -
that shameless fog will haunt you forever
No, I can't say much for the endless sea.

Well dear lady...as you know I live by the sea, and I am sure there couldn't have been a better description, and your crayon box colored quite a picture! Lovely just as your wonderful heart.

What you have said brought the taste of salt, smell of crisp, and foam to my face....

Brava!

A beauty if ever I saw one. And I could "see" it. Well done, Julian.

Thank you all for walking along the beach with me. It is definitely a hang out for me, and in many ways the birth of life. I enjoyed sharing with you very much. Thank you for reading. Shalom

Thank you, Paula, I see you are from my Grandmother's beloved state. I haven't visited for quite a while, but remember my visits vividly as being very peaceful.

Like your technique of bringing it back to the beginning . . . the endlessness and all.

Julian~
Here I am - grabbing the same lines as my friend, SEA~

'Churning endlessly with a smell
you cannot forget, memories
of another time - a love you set free -
that shameless fog will haunt you forever'

She and I are like that -
Very much akin in the heart of our thoughts,
and caught up in the same net of emotion.

This is a wonderful piece.

This brought back memories of many a moonlit walk along the beach. Invisible gulls, the salty smells, the phosphorus surf and occasionally the grunion would be running.
Thank you for this wonderful poem.

I can not only smell the salt air, but my hair is curly from the sea mist. The imagery in your poem placed me right there with you. What a great poem this is Mabe. I love you.
