Stolen Childhoods

As shadows slither in the dark
across the hardwood floor,
a child in bed, with covers drawn
prays, "Please, no more, no more."

She is a child and innocent.
No mercy does it show.
A demon, dressed in shades of pain.
How slow her inches grow.

It threatens her, says do not tell,
so all she feels is shame.
If people knew the things it did,
they'd say she is to blame.

Each night, her pillow soaks up tears.
This boogeyman is real.
It is the dark of tortured dreams
with heart that cannot feel.

More closely does she covers draw,
when on the stairs, a creak.
This hellish specter, born of bile,
that feasts upon the weak.

If God exists, then slay this thing,
these precious ones, protect,
and rid the world of this disease
so it cannot infect.

Please heal the lives of all it touched
and bring their smiles again.
That it would dare to touch a child,
is the most heinous sin.

I can't write the words that I feel, they are so vile they would be stricken from this forum.

"It threatens her, says do not tell,
so all she feels is shame.
If people knew the things it did,
they'd say she is to blame."

Why oh why do children have to suffer?

you have touched on a subject most people don't want to think about...you've made them think about it with this poem (and they should) you have brought to light the suffering of so many...an excellent poem
BRAVO!

inot2B and tradewind,

As parents, as human beings, it is our duty to protect these precious innocents and see to it that their childhoods never know such horrors. This was a very hard poem for me to write. I thank you both for reading this.

...and to continue Martie's thought, if I may, so many adults still have not brought their fears to light....
