I remember, I remember
When I held you in my arms.
Nine months you lived inside me,
Then I finally saw your charms.
And in that very moment-
Your first upon this earth-
You did help me to understand
The miracle of birth.
Each day, I watched you grow and learn
The lessons taught by Life-
The joy of love and laughter
And the pain of grief and strife.
Then, suddenly, you were a man,
Grown up in every way.
I wondered where your childhood went
It felt just yesterday.
But then, you seemed to change in ways
That I could not explain-
The sun that once shone on you left,
Replaced by falling rain.
And you became unreachable,
Far away you went
Your pain had taken toll on you
Your very soul was spent.
I didn't want to let you go
But God knew what was best
He took you to a better place
And there, you found your rest.
I know you have not really gone-
You've only been set free.
Someday, I will join you
And once again, with you I'll be.

For R.

This poem brought tears to my eyes for I've not lost him entirely but he is so close.

"But then, you seemed to change in ways
That I could not explain-
The sun that once shone on you left,
Replaced by falling rain.
And you became unreachable,
Far away you went"

You have put in words what I can understand.

Every minute you are angry, you lose 60 seconds of happiness.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Oh my... this is a truly touching poem. You really surprised me with the last part. I give you a lot of credit for writing this chronologically like that... from birth to death. Very well done.
You expressed this beautifully.

Sunshine--thank you....as I said to Inot2B, I'm glad that I was able to write something that you could relate to, but sorry that you relate to this particular one.

Elizabeth, you have given us such a touching and sad piece here. It brought tears to my eyes. Very beautifully written, my friend. Thanks for sharing.
