Snack for my Muse

I was sitting at the puter; my muse was falling asleep,
It was late at night, and I was really lacking my beauty sleep.
I decided to just go get some more food for thought,
So I went to the fridge just to see what I’ve got.

I’d finished off the nachos, ice cream, cheesecake, and herbal tea,
So I headed for the kitchen, smiling, with a heart full of glee.
When I got to the kitchen in search of my wanted snack,
What I saw next really made me take a step back!

Right there in the kitchen I saw a big old potato,
He was dancing with a pickle and an old ripe, red tomato.
On the table was playing a fruit and vegetable band,
There were six apples singing and clapping their hands.

A kiwifruit was yodeling, A-yodel-ay-ee-ooo!”
And showing a banana and an orange how to yodel too.
I thought, “This is crazy, this simply cannot be!”
But I really wasn’t dreaming, as it was very plain to see.

The cucumbers laughed at me as they swam in the sink,
While the a mango winked and said to me, “What do you think?”
“We’re having a very good party for this time of the year,
We even have fresh green peppers and bright, red radishes here.

For out of season, the party is just rocking don’t you think?”
And then I saw mushrooms marching in a row to the sink!
There were two plums rolling in circles with a couple of eggs,
Then they swung each other around by their arms and their legs.

On the counter were a pear and peach laughing, and dancing a jig,
To funny music played on fiddles by a prune and a fig!
Now this was the craziest party that I had ever seen,
All kinds of vegetables and fruit were dancing, even a green bean!

Then a big orange carrot yelled, “Hey! Stop! Everyone look!”
All the fruit and vegetables stopped, that was all it took.
As soon as they saw me standing there in the door,
The jumped down from the counter and scurried on the floor.

And before I could blink they were all back in their place,
The “out of season” party was now over, without even a trace.
I rubbed my eyes, as I was sure it was a dream, I wasn’t awake,
Then came noises from my stomach, sounded like an earthquake!

In trying to stir up my muse I had snacked maybe too much,
Do I need to say what happened next; my tummy was sore to touch.
I think I will try writing poetry in the afternoon after lunch,
And next time my snack will be grapes, a little, tiny bunch!

Serenity: Good idea, live and learn - thank you for reading an insomniac's crazy rhyme.

Sea: If I made you smile, I did my job today, glad you enjoyed it.

Sunshine: I shall be sure to wake you next time thanks!

Just A Woman and Dee: Thanks you two. If I made you smile, I smile, and that is what my silly poems are about, to make you smile! Life is too short.

I've tried to hide my passion,
