Utopian Dreams
(a re-post in the spirit of spring's rejuvination)

When days are dark, and oh, so long, when nothing's as it seems,
When harshness of reality descends … I like to dream.

I will my mind to take me far away from daily strife,
To visions of Utopia, where senses can a'light;
No cares nor worries follow me, it's just myself alone,
Transcending to another world, where I can freely roam.

I cross the path, o'er wooden bridge, beyond a glistening stream,
And slip into this twilight realm, through captivating scene;
I wear a flowered sundress, ribbons woven through my hair,
A bonnet made of straw completes this vision that I wear.

Before me, to the left, I see a most engaging sight,
With foothills and a valley, 'tis an absolute delight;
I'm barefoot as I find myself before this wondrous scene,
The long tall grass is tickling me, propelled by gentle breeze.

And there I drift through meadow, I'm at one with nature now,
Each creature stops to greet me, as I lean to touch their brow;
No words are needed, only thoughts, they nuzzle me along,
In tune with one another, as they grace me with their song.

I reach a tributary, that is fed by waterfall,
I shed my clothes and dive amongst the beauty of it all;
Refreshed and peaceful, there I pause, beneath the water's sheen,
And marvel at the wonders that surround this tranquil scene.

I'm bathed in glory, rich with scents and sounds of nature's own,
'Tis here amongst this gentle world … my conscience finds it's home.

Gentle spring! This really is wonderful and should be read aloud to 'feel' it! Thank you for giving me a touch of spring (now that we are in the 90 degree temps here!)

I'm learning that our thinking has much to do with how we feel and of course, how we renew ourselves. This poem has a wonderful "attitude" !!

Kit, this is beautiful! The imagery is amazing, and it makes me forget that its 50 degrees outside and raining! Thanks for sharing this beautiful reminder of spring!

Reminds me of a dream I had when I was a young boy...I walked down a dreary alley behind my grandmothers house and the scenery turned into a beautiful meadow in the forest such as you have described...James
