This is one of my older ones... Some of the rhymes are a little weird, almost forced, but I think it's a pretty good one. Criticism is always welcome.

The Monster

It’s autumn now
And I can still feel your smile.
The auburn leaves,
Lie in a pile.
The sky is gray,
Fitting for my mood.
The air is chilled,
And my heart is skewed.

A look at the bare trees
Brings me to my knees.
Tears flow as memories surface
Memories from last autumn.

Wiping my eyes I start to lose control
Vowing revenge
On the one who stole
Your most precious gift,
Your cause for living.
Your soul is what that monster stole

I rush inside and grab the gun
But that is as far as I go.
I put it down and get the rake
Knowing I almost put it all at stake.
I can’t kill it now
For if I do
MY soul will be stolen
Like some mystic voodoo.

Tears flow again
When I see the leaves in the pile.
Auburn no longer,
They’re now red like blood.
Then rain starts to fall
Dirt changes to mud.
Stirring more memories
Of the terrible past.

The monster and me,
They’re both here.
You are too
But not for long.
You say the wrong things
And it gets real mad
I can’t help at all
The situation is bad.
Soon you are gone
Blood trails on the floor.
The monster has left
And I am alone.

To reality I come back
I know now what I must do.

“Devil!” I shout, tears on my face.
“Show yourself monster
Be you demon or beast.
Either of which, I care in the least.”

Out of the shadows
It bore it’s all.
A demon it was
And none too small.

“What do you want, you tiny mortal?
I was sleeping peacefully.
When you, with your boisterous
Yelling disturbed my rest.
What do you want, you ignorant pest?”

I quickly grab the gun
And point it at the monster.
“You put me through hell!”
In it’s face I yell.
“You ruined my life
You murdered my wife
And now it’s my turn.
My turn to make YOU suffer
Horribly, like I have.”

The demon but laughs
As though my words are nothing.
“You petty threats mean little to me
A sniveling coward is all you’ll ever be.”

My face strains in frustration
As the gun points at its head.
Just a movement of the finger
And forever it will be dead.

“I’m not a coward,
Just a shy young guy.
You on the other hand,
You're just a lie.
YOU are the coward
And a big one at that.
Your love is skinny,
But your hatred is fat.”

The demon was angry
As was apparent to me.
It spoke once again
Voice filled with loathing.
“You insolent fool
I should have killed you long ago.
I guess now will have to do,
Here we go!”
With that it strikes
But not before me.
I pull the trigger
And it ceases to breathe.
I sigh in relief.
It is then I notice
Blood on my face.
Running down my cheeks.
I then realize that
It’s not easy to see, but
The monster was my life
The monster was me.

I can see where the rhymes were forced, but overall this piece went smoothly...very nice!

If time and space are curved, where do all of the straight people come from?
Let's get one thing straight: I'm not!
