Consider dank deposits of mausoleum caskets
their hallowed spirits wait for sands to empty
accompanied by a costumed world of the pretend
freakish shadows jive to haunted house sounds
plucked melon face grimaces glow in panes

Set for a night of treat or feat
nooses tighten to mark ghastly glances
but below in the land of the unforgiving
damp wood covers creak to liberate shadows

long tapered figures remove prisoner lids
protective soils flake away...another harvest waits
a pale moonlight shimmers on this ascent
to join the pagan company of ghoulish fiends
clutching treat bags on the surface world

autumn mist floats over squash linteled homes
marking the end of hourglass flows
as dark draped figures arise
who will know?
