Night One:
"Mother dear, I had a bad dream last night.  I dreamed a monster devoured me alive!!!"
"Don't be silly child, monsters do not exist, they are simply insanities that you carry within."

Night Two:
"Mother dear, I felt a presence in my room last night, it watched me from inside my dark closet, far from any light."
"Don't be silly child of mine, monsters do not exist, it's simply your emagination running wild."

Night Three:
"Mother, Mother, Mother dear, I saw something lurking around my room last night, sniffing my clothing and scratching the leg of my bed"
"Now, now child, I've had quite enough, tonight you'll have an early bed time.  This shall teach you not to lie."

Night Four:
"Mother look, I have a bite mark on my foot, the creature came again last night and tried to eat it whole."
"Child, grow up.  I'm sick of this, everyday you complain about something that does not exist!!!"

Night Five:

"Good Morning Child.  So tell me why I didn't hear your screams last night? Did you finally confront your fears?"
"Yes, yes I did Mother"
"What did this creature look like anyhow?"
"Well, he had hair on his head, two eyes, two ears, one nose, one mouth, silky skin, two legs, two arms, five fingers on each hand, five toes on each foot..."
"Child, it sounds to me like this creature looks a lot like you and I..."
"Yes Mother, but he did not have two horns on his head, or a tail for that matter.  He had no fangs, no claws, no scaily skin, no cat eyes or wings like ours..."
"...child... he sounds grotesque..."
"Doesn't he Mother?"

I liked the sudden twist of humour in the end...was definitely not expecting that!!! Nice piece! Very much needed on today!!!
Thanks!!!!

And I don't see the humor in this,
but the sudden realization with this poem
that not all
monsters look alike...
not from child to adult...

well done...
