Moved from a shack to a barn

0 posted 2002-09-28 11:09 PM

A recent post made me recall this event with a homeless man that hung around my restaurant. It upsets me when people consider the bloodying of their designer sheets.

A glint of steel
A beacon
Flashed in alley

Hidden in dark
Huddled in damp
A miserable man
In pitiable pile

Plays with notions
That animate blade
Hide and seek
Within his collar

I hunkered close
Leaned and asked
Why this? Why here?

Idiot responses
Inane reasoning
In my reality
In any case

I sought some sanity
In this too tired man
Offered a trade

A roof
A meal
A bottle
For his blade

And I bartered
Argued
Pled

For an end
To this drama

But, he held fast
His agony
Was dogged
In his despair

And as hours
Disappeared
I became as trapped
As he

Until finally
I bade him
Meet my gaze

And told him
That I was tired
And was leaving

And he should
Just do it

Now

And he handed it
to me

In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward".

Wranx, my never-met-before special friend... If humbleness is the world, and "tears" is the monetary system, then I just gave you what amounts to a billion dollars back in this reality that lacks...
Can't say anything more.
{Except this...after reading it again for the umpteen time, you must continue life being one who "bades". Choice of words made this ten fold the strength of the already sobering concept. The pedastal of your viewpoint is rising fast}

I thought I heard someone knocking at the door, but it was just your heart beating, right through this screen.
