I wrote this awhile back and since I have seen a couple of poem's posted about death, decided to bring it out.

She came again dressed in black
Like so many times before
Haunting my vision with her beaconing look
Her eery whisper I faintly recall
Although she had visited  many times in my dreams
This time  slowly  I draped myself in grave clothes
I knew just what to do, for she was my guide
Then  I solemnly and anxiously awaited
As I  placed my heart on a shelf
Thinking that safe keeping is the order
I readied myself for the call
As I put on my shoes I soon  traveled on
Towards the darkness I knew was inevitable
Yes, I knew it would envelope me soon

I went to say goodbye to part of my heart
This death angel accompanying side by side
I traveled far in my thoughts to get there
She stood still as we set sail for the other side
Cold as ice while shivering me to the bone
Silence I could  cut with  a knife
There was no escaping her presence
It had taken hold and seized me still
It awakened me with the  reality of
Numbered are my  days
Yes my number was up

She smiled so sweetly  and serene
As she promised me  peace and  joy
She took me by the hand and led me
Luring me  into her  unknown world
She held me   tight   to her bosom
How can I  struggle free
While paralyzing  my thoughts?
Her deadly sting will poison all
Yes,  all in due time
Then she soon intoxicated me to follow her path
Death is her wish and she would not be denied

The  finality of her power is like no other
No one ever wins her final  fight
Darkness looms when she shows up
Only God holds the final light
So within her presence I shake and tremble
As I try to defy her every  whim
But I knew one day she would visit
My life  for all eternity to win
Yes,   to her it ultimately belongs
So I will not get to  struggle or debate
Just live today as if it were
The very last day

Before

Before,  she whispers my  name this final time
Before,  it is too late to live life another breath

It's curtain time
And she says
The  simple words, "It's time to meet your final  fate".
Death's Door

I liked this piece. It had a certain fear factor to it while remaining melancholy and clear. Thanks for the great work!

Lynne,
I hope that death
is as beautiful as that.

Ethereal, ghostly, haunted ...
