Grown up Games

What confuses me
What causes me the most grief
Is I don’t know how to play the games grown ups do...
See I am too literal, sincere, too honest
I used to think these were good qualities
And I have tried to live my life that way
Even admitting when I had failed in
My own prearranged ideals for my living
I see now that those traits
Hold no value to the rest of the world
Only lead to heartache and confusion

There is a knack to this quality, being “grown up”
A way to say thing; to play and tease
A way to say nothing; mean nothing
Yet, use all the same words others do
Can the players all wear a specific color
Something so the unwary can avoid them?
It seems a bit heartless to play with those
Not only ignorant but unprepared

I think I am genetically lacking
It is my biggest complaint with the human race
I thought it was others, that people just weren’t truthful
However, I have come to see
That it is I, who does not know the rules
Cannot understand the game
I am missing a few cards of a full deck
Not all together there, they kindly say

Somewhere in spite of all the brutality and crap in life
I failed to learn the most vital lessons
How to lie thru my teeth; say absolutely nothing
Pretend I do not feel a damn thing
And know in my heart everything about me is a lie

DeaDi, I have often felt this way. I too, try to see the truth in things. It is often hidden, too well.

You keep polishing that water.

Yep, there's no place in this world for people like you, me, Moon Dust and others here.

Yes, there is a place for us. Unfortunately it's only a message board on the web. *sigh* I'm still looking for one in the real world. I'll let you know if I find it. I find the most powerful poetry is put in this folder. That's probably why I come here so much.

This is a very emotional poem and I felt every word. Nice job.

There are a million messages,
in a million bottles,
you just have to know
which one to pull out of the ocean.
