between the gutter & the stars

*afraid of things that never were*

open up the window and let the cold wash over me.
open up my eyes and let my hopes take hold of me.
there's a star off in the distance
just beyond the roads of this place
see it falling, hear it calling,
and i'll make it if i'm crawling

Dreamin the dreams of everyone
Needing things that can't be won
Drown in a shout of can't-be-done
Just who the hell did i think i was?

Writing across the pages
on a dark an' lonely journey.
writing about faith and rage
as the days keep slowly burning.
pages in a book of sins
fightin' a fight i just can't win
i keep striving, feel it dying,
but i keep lying
to myself...

Dreamin the dreams of everyone
Needing things that can't be won
Drown in a shout of can't-be-done
Just who the hell did i think i was?

Looking through the tears
and trying to fight the fears
Can't help thinking maybe
i been wasted all these years.
Running through the streets
not lookin for sympathies
Wond'rin if  i close my eyes
would my dreams give up on me?

Mom and Dad just called and said i'm not their son.
Mom and Dad said all that i'll ever be's a bum.
"it's hard to lead the life you choose
when all your luck's run out on you"
and everyone is making fun
of the dreamer that i thought i was.

lying on the ground;
don't think i'm gonna get up.
writing it all down
before these dreams can burn up.
question the things i want and need
will things i chase really set me free?
heart is screaming; give up dreaming?
teach me to start believing
won't you...

Dreamin the dreams of everyone
Needing things that can't be won
Drown in a shout of can't-be-done
Just who the hell did i think i was?

it's our struggle for identity that leaves us all unknown

Ya know...I can see you driving down the road with this one blaring on the box...and you keeping time with your fingers on the dashboard...
a Caddy convertible me thinks

As always, your musical influences and instincts are apparent in your work...and also there...between the lines, is found what I have always loved about your words...there is always that certain edge...
the hard truths of life is not always fair...the lessons hard learned...but also there is the hope...the drive...the defiance...the attitude and spirit of "life may knock me around...may knock me down ... but dont ever count me out." And that my wise friend -- is a very cool thing.
But then..Ive come to expect cool things from you

Later-rock-on-gator

Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much ...
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch.
