Deeper than a lonely heart:
     the low thrum
of the widow's harp.

Loving what the nightwind brings:
     the soft drum
wayward insect wings.

Trembling strands at center's bend-
     Mother, come!
hunger's edge to end.

Panicked fumbling, painful slow,
     venom numb:
poison's fading glow.

Mindful of her empty womb,
     (busy hum)
knits a silver tomb.

Dangling pantries, stores of meat:
     the night's sum-
babies soon will eat.

Stopping wearily to rest,
     the Queen mum,
awaits her next guest.

I never aimed at reality; I aimed at truth. --Orson Welles

I'm not particularly fond of insects, but you've made me miss the sound of the night that they bring.

Nice!!

I enjoyed this very much.  Being from a small hick town in AL this is about the most relaxing (and might I say 'exciting') thing to do here. Most of my time is spent on the porch with my notebook and pen. I often like to think mother nature talks to me and gives me my ideas. But that's just me, lol. Wonderful job at describing this.
