Watching you cry,
Not knowing what to do,
Scatter brained to find a way,
To ease and comfort you,
You tell me you don't want to die,
And you say you don't know why,
It has to be you,
That has to go through.... so much pain.
I feel so helpless,
Cause I don't know what to say,
My words can't make a difference,
Cause your time will come any day,
I wish it didn't have to be you,
I wish I could change your world with the blink of an eye,
But everyone has to go sometime,
I don't know if I can pull myself to say the last goodbye,
Watching someone I love,
In so much pain and despair,
The hurt, anger, and sadness,
I can't stand to bear,
I love you so dearly,
I just want you to know,
And the memories and thoughts of you,
I'll never let go,
When you close your eyes,
On the day its time,
You will be with the father above,
You'll no longer be mine,
To have, to hold,
To love and to share,
But always remember,
I'll always love you, miss you, and care...

LP1,

I went through this with both parents (20 & 30 years ago) and lately with a dear friend. As time goes by, I expect this kind of thing more and more frequently. The thing is, I never get better at it.

Good grief!

This poem is actually written for my mothers best friend that is dying.  But it was also based towards my beloved uncle that passed away about 3 weeks ago.  Thank you all for your replies and support.

we always live with the knowledge that a loved one can disappear at any time. When that happens, however, we have no scope to deal with it.

Your words really capture the torrent of feelings we experience.
