Succubus
I became friendly with the girl
That lived alone in the apartment
Across the hall from mine
Her short red hair, bright emerald eyes
And a decidedly waiflike build
Made her a painfully appealing package

Sometimes, late in the night
She would let herself into my apartment
And upstairs to my bedroom to see
Whether or not I was alone

Always dressed only in a nightgown
Sometimes of silk, sometimes of flannel
She would climb into bed with me
Careful not to wake me
Cold bare feet on my shins
Announced her arrival nonetheless

Her small frame would spoon into me
My chin on the top of her head
One breast against my forearm
The other in my hand
Her bottom pressed into me

Mostly, I think she came just for closeness
To feel the warmth of another
I would listen to her sigh softly
Before drifting away to sleep
And I would feel wholly protective

On other visitations she, or I, or we
Would become aroused by this
Quiet arrangement, this odd intimacy
And reaching behind, would guide me into her
As she turned to offer a kiss

Once, my girlfriend and I were awakened
By my succubus standing at the bedside
Bearing a tray of hot coffee and warm muffins
This, I told my girlfriend, is my perfect neighbor
This, I told my perfect neighbor, is a bad idea

And so it went for several remarkable weeks
Until she moved away with a new love
Leaving me to listen for the rustle of her nightgown
And the creak the bed would make
When she would slip beneath my blankets

Beneath the blankets, or beneath my blankets, but not both. I loved this poem, wranx. Yr fast becomin' one of my favorite Darklings. (what a stupid title)

Of course, now I have to dig up MY old succubus poetry. Bitter stuff, that.

These smiling eyes are just a mirror for the sun.

Thanks squirrel dude, maybe you could fix that for me (I prefer "my").Must be the acid I did in the 60s'...

As you can probably see, I really don't write the bitter stuff, I prefer mine bittersweet. Such is life...you mellow.

I looked at several titles like this in here, and when my eyes found your name on this I had to open it. I wasn't dissappointed. You have an instant fan.

I LOVED this
It gave me a pleasant shiver or two..or three...hell..a lot of them.

I will not bend to the cowardice of a silent judgement.

I've been accused of being the succubus. I don't bear your darlings' image though. I have long dark brown hair and eyes that somehow manage to drift between dark and light (being both dark brown and deep green)... I never had a "perfect neighbor" though unfortunately.

I like the bittersweet taste of this. I think that if it were bitter it'd lose what makes it precious. It's gem.. shiny..

I don't normally come in here, but tonight I'm glad that I wandered off..

Well, i'd say for someone who has never had a desire to write, you probably should make the best of it if it is a passing thing of yours, keep writing, perhaps a collection of short stories. And sell them!

Shaaaazzzzzzzaaaaammmmmm Baby!!!

Holy Cow!  Sounds like me in a Movie gone bad!!!  I kid you not. Do I know you???   Is this imagination or am I coming back to haunt you?  Just too wild of an "imaginatory" write that is TOO real for ME.  Great stuff here.  Going to bed now beneath my "blanket" and dream of my neighbor's!!  arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
