This is for my nephew, who lost his three month old son last year, on Valentine's Day. Stephen, little Zach lives on.

The pounding inside my head
Is an echo of all the dead
screams I hear in the night,
unfulfilled dreams and a life
snatched from his bed
before he could even
swing on the playground
or teeter-totter
or fail an algebra test,
even if he did his best.
Somedays, life really sucks.
Yesterday was one of those days,
one year ago Valentine's Day.
It was one of those days,
and the pounding inside my head
persists, because you are dead.
Yet perhaps your memory
remains inside to remind me
I should not dread the heartaches, and
the pounding in inside my head.
For in my heart and mind you give love,
and will always live.

Eagle one, thank you. This was a painful but healing write, fand I thank you for taking time to read it. Indeed, there isn't much anyone can say to take away the pain. Time somehow helps soften the edges of the wounds.
