They Say

They say:
You bend or you break.
I must be breaking
for I do not think I am bending.
Shattering into a million silver shards
stained with shadows and blood.

They say:
Life is tough; get used to it.
I know life is tough
but I do not think I am getting used to it.
Standing on the outskirts of reality
floating somewher between being and not.

They say:
You can do better-try to succeed.
I am giving my best; this is it
but I do not think I am succeeding.
Falling behind in the rat race
never pulling away and ahead.

They say:
You are not making an effort to think positive.
I am trying to think positive
but I do not think I am.
Shadows keep interrupting
with messages from hell.

I sit alone and stare
at success and look away
wondering what it would be like
to know that heady wine for my self.

I sit alone and stare
at benders who look away
wondering why they seem ashamed
they did not break with me.

I sit alone and stare
at birds flying in the sky
wondering what it would be like to join them
and end this pantomime life of hell.

Interesting piece - too late for a book offering I believe but I voted. Don't you wonder just who "THEY" are?
