Present and Past

In this life
I've forgotten what I was,
or tried to be,
in lives before.
I've forgotten lessons learned,
penalties paid,
suffering done,
happiness earned,
things that have made a better person
of me.
In this life I try to give
what I expect in return,
I try to live a life of love,
accepting love,
hate and pain,
whatever is received or earned.
In this life I strive to grow taller
than I ever was,
bigger than I've ever been,
compassionate, loving, and giving,
in ways I never knew.
In this life I am challenged,
I know, in ways I've never been;
in the heart and the soul I'm tested,
rewarded and punished,
for things I don’t understand.
In this life,
I wish I could remember past lessons forgotten,
mistakes that should never be made,
love that could have been saved,
how to hold hands that never let go,
see smiles that never fade,
touch hearts that know only love.
In this life…
in THIS life,
I’ve lost my way.

In this life I am challenged,

for things I don’t understand.

There you have it, life is a mixed bag
and I don't think we were meant to understand it all.
This was so good to read.
