In The End...

Promises of my lover
proved empty
a notion on the wind
long forgotten
protective barriers,
once in place on my behalf
lie in ruins
I hold not
even the essence
of one kiss
to treasure, cherish
for the true promises
of my lover
were only tears...

perhaps because those barriers were too much. . . we put them up. . . and we hope. . . but, when someone breaks through. . .we put up more. . . and then. . . the loss. . .
