Is this my life?
Staring back at me through the looking glass?
My dreams wrapped up in silver strands
Aspirations lining my face.

These barren walls unchanged
Surrounding this hollow pit inside me.
Destined to be destitute
Inner peace swirling beyond my weakened grasp.

"Ascend!" I scream from parched lips.
"Ascend with me," I whisper
Upon deafened ears.
Distorted sight..."See me," I plea.

See who I am
Not who you wish me to be.
Starving body, starving soul
Praying for eternal acceptance.

Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence.

here's hoping that this prayer is answered. . . indeed if only people could see us as we are. . . the real us. . .

well done my friend. . .

See who I am
Not who you wish me to be.

Unconditional love is something that some people fail to give.  When a person never receives that unconditional love..they many times are unable to see the good things about themselves.  True friends will help you see the good in yourself..and you are lucky when you find a friend like that. Be a good friend to yourself and affirm your selfworth. Thanks for your comment on my poem. I enjoyed yours.

How many times have I wanted to scream that myself. Strong, passionate poem. Great write.

Oh yes, this one is excellent.  I've found myself in the same place, sonjes.  May your prayer be heard and answered, my friend.

by the grace of God.

Indeed, if only people saw the 'real' us, not the ones they envision, or want to see.  I'm sure most of us have prayed similar to your prayer once or twice!!!!!
Great work....
