Legacy of Blood
Copyright 2001
Written by James Edward Shields

Cold lips kiss a starving gaze
Ivory upon ivory, the feel
Dominion a space gated
Angels fall and die
Only one way to rid of temptation
Give into it
Chaos of an evil unbound
As we are all equal, we are dead
Press tight those lips
A graven kiss
On her gown of black, lies red
Souls hiding in the dark
Want no reprisal or salvation
Are treated as lepers
Who want only to be left alone
Words from another
It is good to die young
Become immortal
Only the good die young....what a lie
Dying is the very sunlight
To love is to destroy
Thus everything dies mortally
Suffering and passion
Demons do not die
Only lay in wait
What upsets the world so?
Life? Death? Mortality...
Death himself through the void
His flower given
A grin equal to all
That flower is love
Murdering slowly
And lusting feinds to rip the flesh apart
In all these things teeth sink crimson
Slow Madam Ectasy
Thou shall not kill?
Well we kill ourselves everyday
We are all rotting fruit
For the world to eat
Murdering on the threads of life

Now this is dark! I was struck by some of your images, disturbing in a way. But they definately got my attention, and that's what a good poem should do. Good work!

"Thou shall not kill?

interesting on how you wrote the first from a religious matter and yet at the following verse which questions something realtive but opposite...i liked it.

great job...the tone of this...it went well with the imagery.

if i die before i wake...i pray the Lord my soul to take - when thugs cry-

Yes,i've brought up another old post,i can't help myself,i beleive "old" things should be..recalled from time to time
Anyways, though this poem was somewhat....vampiric,it had some deeper truths in it,the fragility of humanity itself, and the legacy of blood civilization has left behind, very interesting read,i esp. like the last 4 or 5 lines, excellent ending!!
