peel me off, he exhorted,
for there is more truth
hidden in the deep,
underneath
beneath the facade
of hideous blackness
that I show off
in pretense.

there is greatness
waiting to be pushed out
and released to this world
and what's within needs to shine
and thereby shred
the dark cover's hide

skin me like a potato
and make the food
make appealing gestures
to the hungry hearts,
for now, the time has come
to unmask your true self

it is time that
people begin to know
the real you
unmask your mask
unmask me

!

Your pen sings truth again.

THe masks we wear,
when did we first play
their facade?
in our elder years
or maybe in the crib,
we careful selected our roles.
The masks we wear,
can they become our new faces
is identity solid or simply transitory?
Beware these guises that you select
they may be the one you wear until death.

It has been a while hasn't it?
But the poem is spot on, we all need to peel off the false layers once in a while, the masks, the pain etc.
bravo hon, always loved your style...

If only we could all do without such masks...
Your words are so true ... yet it is a sad truth.

I really enjoyed this read though. Nice work.

An honour to have your work back amongst us. An excellent description, we wear far too many of those masks!
