of Depression

There is no more a disheartening sound
Than the cash register without a penny around.
Digging into pockets, nothings found,
There is no more a disheartening sound
Swell of embarrassment, slowly drown;
Pauper of society, owning only a frown.
There is no more a disheartening sound
Than the cash register without a penny around.

Gloom

i must have been kinda whacked.. i was actually thinking that the cash register symbolized our hearts.. and how we become paupers when don't love and when are not loved.. anyway, really nice poem.. short and simple..

I hate the "no jingle" of a penniless pocket...nicely done...a rather familiar theme to me right now

Gloom,
you've done it again! Political comment with a sting about consumerism and the have nots. Well done!
