The door shut behind me.
I stood in silence.
Nothing moved,
Nothing turned,
And nothing stirred.
In eerie silence,
I heard the closing of the door,
An era of my life
Not lost,
Yet not presently inhabited.
I walked down the path before me.
No windows,
No chance to look back;
The way was barred.
The path that lay before me
Was my only choice.
Before me stretched valleys,
Moutains,
And jagged peaks to climb.
Before me lay doors-
Other doors to open,
Other doors to leave behind.

Very good poem, Marie.
But it reminds me of a song that always makes me cry......

"When one door closes,
I hope one more opens."
( from Lee Ann Womack's- "I Hope You Dance")

I wish it will always be this way for you as you journey through life.

I know the intention of the piece was about
the doors laying before the character, the
choices to be made, the past to let go of.

But I have a little twisted idea that doors
without destination occasionally appear to
us, to challenge us - move forward to those
paths we see ahead, stop and ponder the doors
missed by unaware eyes, or consider stepping
back and re-entering a hallway never fully
inhabited.

your poem inspires thought, therefore ...

thanks

When one door closes another always opens for us.  A new lesson to learn, a new adventure, a new love etc.  The secret of it is not to be afraid to venture through that 'unknown' door, for the rewards might be too brilliant to chance missing out on..
Well written
