Toxic Living

Temptations abound within the unknown
limited only by my imagination
which lies wasting in its vagueness
Lush green lands lie beyond
these pollution clouded hills
yet I lie my head on my pillow
of familiar pain
comfort found in knowing
the way of every ache
They anchor me to this place
this prison of sameness
with the promise of nothing
allowing me to rest
in the same old memories
that lie rotting with old dreams
Their pungent odor masked
by the stench of the stifling fear
that I allow to rule this sty
which is my shelter
No new ills can befall me here
for there are no possibilities
when you live in the decay
of too many yesterdays
and too few tomorrows
There is only today
and when it too is gone
I shall once again
try to see past these
ancient black hills
to the faint hint
of green beyond

Too many memories, too many yesterdays, not enough tomorrows. Yes indeed! Excellent work!

Jamie! This is quite a departure for you. It's dark and deep and very well written. I'm sad that you feel this way though.....

Very well written my friend.
