See the butterfly in all her beauty,
You know you can't tame her don't you?
She is magic, spirited and free,
Don't hurt her whatever you do!!

Don't try to tether her to your shore,
For she will surely die,
Don't try to touch her,
No matter how much you want to feel those gossamer wings.

Don't use that net,
To take her freedom away,
Her knowledgeable spirit will die,
Regardless of what you do or say.

You cannot have her,
She is a free spirit,
Sent to show you magic and beauty,
And it's not for you to try and interpret.

She shines in all her beauty,
She's a dream you cannot have or hold,
Merely a reminder,
To how your life should unfold.

Cherish her image,
And know how lucky you are,
To have had her for even a minute,
You must know your place and admire her from afar.

Don't try to own her,
Cage her or kill her inner light,
For she is the guardian,
To Gaia's kingdom of light.

Very nice...yes don't try to capture someones beauty or their love...just enjoy their beauty...they go where they like...around here if a guy likes lots of women they call him a butterfly...James

I'm so glad you all liked this so much. To me the butterfly is the essence of beauty we can have it, be part of it, but never hold it.
Thanks for reading!!

Thanks Kethry I think so, perhaps they really are the guardians, so innocent yet so knowledgeable!!!

This reminds me of my kids laying on their tummys all focused on a butterfly. My son had plans different than his sisters, but before long, all were very quiet, just watching. Not often did anything calm them all. Thanks for the memories. Look, but don't touch!! Hugs, ME

I really enjoyed this poem, and was amazed at how much I can relate to it. I think we have all had a butterfly in our life, and the very nature of people is to possess beauty rather than to observe it. I think that people desperately want to extend that flitting moment of beauty. I know that I wish that my such moments were prolonged.
