Is it the cold or The darkness That promotes the melancholy mood? Or something to do with melatonin? Is today much different than yesterday? When somethings were worse, and A few things were better Pharmacologist look for the magic pill The one that will line their pocket books As Prozac promised Answers lined up in pill bottles on the shelf Waiting to be called by name By the people in white jackets St. John's Wart, a peculiar sounding herb Promoted by some as the answer Could not be the answer for all Naturally growing herbs Have their limitations too Lightboxes, vitamins, herbs And prescription drugs Take your pick Understanding depression And the mind May be the last frontier [This message has been edited by Songbird (edited 02-16-2001).] |

hmmmm my mum uses st.jw,and i'm s'posed to be on something too,but i'm rebelius and decided to unravel the mystery on my own....sooo...very interesting read,i love reading things i agree with  have you ever read the book Touched With Fire by kate redfeild jamison? It is SO excellent,someone else in philosophy101 recommended it to me. It's EXCELLEnt. Point taken further! How did they cope in the 1700's and 1800's without a little medicinal help? They did!! They had lines like stop 'shilly shalling' and get on with it. Their lives were more focused on survival - ie. Do the farming, raising the cattle, so they could eat. They simply didn't have time to focus on themselves to the degree we do. Perhaps that is where modern society has failed? People have embraced the new age and the focus of 'ME ME ME!' and with the medicianal products found they still cannot find the answers. I like Swamp Fairy's ethics, unravel the mysteries herself. If more of us did that, the world would be a better place. I think all of us have gone to a doctor with some problem and he prescribed some miracle pill, but the answer is to sort it out yourself. Indulging in the medicinal way only puts off the inevitable, we all have to face our problems sometime.. and usually the sooner the better. The longer we cover up the problem the worse it usually becomes... A strange world, - I love a lot of the New Age theories but when it comes to this one, it's a no go.. Sorry for the rave!! Swamp#Faeryie sounds like a interesting book. Isis, LOL don't remember the last time I heard someone use that term "shilly shalling" but it was probally my grandmother who I heard say it last. Will anyway.. such is life.. we all have our ups and downs.. just have to keep getting back up! |
