I can hear it
almost feel it
this grainy, cut-glass resonance
this thrumming that makes
my inside teeth, chatter.
It’s this ungainly thing about me
that surpasses limbs and the inner-ear
(although, stops to visit along the way)
Mental tripping
I call it…anyway

Almost
like an army of incorporeal
white-blood cells
‘cept these aren’t white
they’re old and withered, yellow
like parchment paper
and almost
almost as cranky as the lady next-door

Oh, and they’re fast
very fast
If I shut my eyes, I can see them
jumping away, just out of sight
when I look at them
And I know what they’re doing
in proper military fashion, they hunt.

It takes them a little while
(cause I change the location every time)
but, eventually, they find
this little vault – that I secret away.
Happiness lives there
behind walls of mental steel
Impervious to everything, except..
these little. yellow. monsters

Doesn’t really take long
once they find it
sometimes a day
or two
maybe a month
depends, really.
What gets me though, is
that they never just devour It
when they find It.
(Apathy, is bliss – I know)
No – they just suck It dry,
leave it black
and withered
Dead.

That’s the only reason I can come up with.
‘cause I was happy a few days ago, but now…
now it’s gone.

There has to be a medical term for this, somewhere

something other than
Insane

Hmmm - always a hard thing to respond to... your poetry. On one front, you write well, and I enjoy it. On the other is the personal aspect of knowing you and wanting to hug away your miseries.

*SIGH*

Quite the question you've presented here ms Nic, and one I wish I had an answer for...well, other than Prozac.

Nic, you simply blow me away with how far your writings have progressed. In my normal male density, I failed to equate this identity with your other one, thinking 'oh, someone's using the same name as Nicole'....go fig, I know.

I think I know the name of those critters: albio-hemogoblins.
