I hope this does not offend anyone. I am just voicing out some frustration. Thanks.
When Children Lie
-1-
Fresh young teacher, newly wed
Sits on the witness stand,
He’s afraid to look at the judge,
He’s afraid to look at his peers.
Guilty, Guilty, their eyes scream.
She’s only thirteen, thought it would be neat
He failed her on the test last week
So she thought she’d get him back, alright
Told the guidance counselor he had touched her.
-2-
Monday evening, dinner time Mom sets the table
Banging banging on the door, two social services
Andt the sheriff, looking at her with hostility
Her daughter told some friends she’d been raped.
Now they need to investigate house and home
Husband could be the one to take the blame
Children will be taken out of the house.
She thought she’d be the best in class if she said it.
-3-
A little girl falls down off her bike
The bruise is red and swollen
A neighbor asks her what happened, the
Girl is young, she can’t remember, but she
Remembers that she got spanked last night.
Mommy did it. The little girl lies
Hoping to get her mommy in trouble since
She got in trouble, too.
-4-
When children lie, it’s like a spiral
Eternally winding down, down
And the disasters that can prevail from
Innoncent lips, imagination, selfishness,
And ignorance to the rule of cause and effect.
And yet everyone is willing to believe the child
And ignore the parents’protest.
Why would a child lie? They ask.
Any book on children can tell you…
It’s just what children do.

Yet, now there are consequences when children lie,
And it is not the child that pays it.

Very good topic here.  Its just that so many *adults* (not using the word mature here) do take advantage of the young children. And yes I agree, it is sad when children do lie and the innocent adult must pay the price.  I work in a male prison and see the Chesters (child molesters) everyday.  Its a sickening sight to watch them. Anyways I liked this and it makes me think alot about *why?*

Life is often merely repitition of patterns- hoping the most positive ones become learned behavior.

Dpoe, One word -- Wow. chilling topic not sure I know how to critique this one - it is too emotional a subject for me to be level headed on poetic forms. But it must have something because I am in a fragile mood right now and won't tackle anything heavy tonight yet knowing full well where this was going I continued to read to the end.
So you hooked me -
Will try to find my way back to this at a later date and reread.  For now, I'll just say I read to the end and enjoyed the read. WTG. Panne

Yea this is very tru---The 1st one happened to an old teacher of mine(& family friend) he finally got proven innocent, but he still can't go back--it's too hard for him--all the stares--all the whispers--all because of a stupid lie! Great way of expressing this   LOVE ELMO <3

dragonpoe,
I think the difficulty is sometimes children lie...and sometimes they don't

Thanks all for reading and having the patience to understand. This poem had to be written, and I know that children get exploited so much, but I think that it has gone overboard, with the protection, society has taught the children how easy it is to exploits other children and adults as well.
Thanks again for giving this the time, and for your understanding.

dragonpoe,

you surprised me with this one...my eyebrows arched upwards when i first read it...

you gave me a lot to think about...its rather sad when children, known to be young and impressionable, get manuipulative.

thanks all.
Kaile, our children are growing up fast and learning things that children should never learn.
