Looking at all I have
Memories are the only thing I find
Right where I left them.
The house is empty now,
I sit on the cold hardwood floor
Remembering…

Stolen kisses in the living room
Laughter, whispering and carpet stains….
You know that the closet door is still dented
I can’t believe I was so angry.
That will be coming out of the deposit, I’m sure.

The bedroom…
Hmm…where can I begin?
Tears, sweat, lonliness and pleasure.
My own “blissful hell”
If only those walls could talk
Rest assured the neighbors will be for awhile…

The kitchen still smells like burning rubber
Okay, I think I’ll leave that one alone.
But the sweetest thing I do remember tasting
Were those kisses you gave me
Just as the sun would set
And come pouring through the window…

My eyes focus on the front door
You must have walked through it
And left a million times
I could always count on you coming back

As I get up to leave, I turn around
I see myself still sitting there….
I realize
That I can’t leave, I won’t ever leave.
Some part of me will always sit there
Waiting for you
To walk back through that damn door.
"driving down our favorite crash course with no headlights, we finally crash."

Memories are always good to remember!  But dont live in the past.  I hope all is okay with you!

And you have recast a shadow or two of mine.  Worth looking back at now and then.  Thanks.

Thanks for your responses, I am moving and it is good in a way, because you get to "start" over and create new memories, but sad at the same time because you need to mourn and let go of the house you created so many memories in....

beth - this is one of your better poems I think. The style suits you!

i hear you about old and new memories. did something similar last year myself - turns out well in the end i think, though there are some memories it'd be nice to be able to relive.

hugs

well done. I could feel the emotions, the memories, feel the weight of being pulled forward and backward at the same time. Moving on is difficult, but in order to grow, we must move forward.
Good write.

Memories are the most important things we have, moving is always hard but you have new memories to look forward to

Very realistic pictures - well portrayed!  The poignancy of loss appears heavy, but it hasn't overcome you.
Nicely done!

I had read this a few days ago but wasn't able to respond as I had to get to work...but I felt a lot of emotion in this, lots of memories we recall leave us empty, sometimes happy, sometimes sad. I believe we do learn from them, and good or bad they lead us through life. thanks for the read.

lost in thought, found in words.

An excellent write, I too like the style. The memories are always a part of us though it can be good not to have so many reminders around us all the time.

I have been another man

I think many of us can relate to the "blissful hell" you speak of here.  Excellent write, indeed.
