It is a night, cast of ink-like void,
An endless purgatory of dreams,
Where I sit high
Upon a make-shift throne
Of skeletal emotions.
As bone dry as my tearless eyes.
As brittle as my hapless memories.
I watch over forgotten days of laughter,
Lingering in clouds of illusions,
Drifting aimlessly,
Throughout the folds of my mind.
I am King here.
A wave of my hand casts me back,
To days where the sun did once shine,
Where I stand before my former self,
Envious of what was.
Guilty of what could have been.
Such a fool am I,
To believe the past can bring pleasure,
When pain is the only reminder,
Where time was lost on youth.
Yet I still smile,
For I am the King here,
In this ink-like void of night.
And no one can dethrone me.

Wandering,
This is the first piece of yours I remember reading and I am not disappointed!!

A wave of my hand casts me back,
To days where the sun did once shine,
Where I stand before my former self,
Envious of what was.
Guilty of what could have been.
Such a fool am I,

What powerful words! I truly enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing.

I found this poem both intriguing and enthralling. It was a wonderful articulation. My compliments.

The VOID, where you have only what you bring.
King indeed, on a fragile throne.  Interesting treatment.  Relates to lots of us I think.  Will look for more from you.

Strangely enough, this makes me think of a scene in "The Cell" (I recommend the movie, btw)... this is a less solid kingdom, though perhaps not less entrapping. The idea is suitably done, and the verse enjoyable… but the images I get simply from tangents of that film: pictures twisted, gleaming. Thanks. Be Well.

very well written. Darkly fascinating. Great imagery. I can see the relationship to the movie The Cell, ( I recommend it, too.)
Well done.

With the word, I am mighty, with the pen I am free..
