Lament
I have come to count my dreams
As one by one they slip away
I have come to greet the night
More warmly than a summer’s day.

My feet once danced, but now are still
Cobwebs collect upon window sill
For I have no wish to see outside
My garden wilted, the day you died.

Laughter, singing, all memories now
I lost you somewhere, some how.
And how I’ve screamed and ranted and raved
It was you who came and me you saved.

And now you’ve gone to God’s own gate
Leaving me here to want and wait
How long shall I wait to meet again?
And how can I be any kind of man?

You’ve gone, your dust in on the waves
As our wedding song continues to play
My heart is ever yours, my sweet
And I know that again we will meet.

Please wait for me in Heaven love,
I will see you fly on the wings of the dove
And live my days until the final one
As my dreams have gone, my world undone.

Thank you all for your kind words. THis poem was written with my Grandfather in mind, my grandmother  had a brain aneurism several years ago and it took her 10 yrs of being a vegatable to die. 3 yrs after she passed on, my grandfather was diagnosed with severe cancer and died within a year or so, as he was going, he opened his heart to my mother about alot of things, one being the love he had for my grandmother but never showed, esp. when she was in the hospital every day of her life for 10 yrs. He has inspired a lot of poetry.
(just thought you would like to know the story behind this piece  )
Thank you again.

This really touched me.  Extremely well penned, so sorrowful, yet so beautiful at the end.  You have some great imagery in this.  I am truly sorry to hear of your Grandparent's passing~

Take care,
Melissa
