Darkness settles against me
For it does not heed,
These ancient walls wounded
As their cracks begin to bleed.
A musty smell teases nausea
The bulge in my throat grows,
Heavy footsteps to the unknown
Stopping where nobody knows.
A painful scream beckons me
Somewhere in the black distance,
Yet when I try to run to help her
I'm met with invisible resistance.
Pleading they are for its mercy
Of what, though, escapes me,
The screams dwindle to moans
And the mystery befuddles me.
A scent of death greets me
Accompanied with iron must be blood,
I coldn't get to her dying
I would have if I could.
Silent breath pounds my ears
As my heart begins to race,
There's a hooded man evil
Below him the outline of a face.
The salt of tears I taste
Is it from her or are they mine?
Damn this darkness to hell
For it has left me blind.
I can still hear it beating
Surly she's been torn apart,
Beaten, violated, stripped of dignity
I can still sense her heart.
Suddenly silence so frightening
Can't wake from this dream but why?
Choking the words "please help me"
The the outline fades and dies.

Firejerm,

Wow.  This is a dark poem.  A perfect piece of macabre.  Judging by the title, I am assuming it was a dream you had...Have you looked into the possible symbolism that could be in it?

It was nicely done. Great job.

Very good job, Jeremy! *shivers* Makes me NOT want to go back to bed.

Your poetry is getting more and more towards the darkened side.... I like it!  But yet I enjoy your *love* poems just as well. Great work!

Love,
