Born in a bitter sea of pain,
Emotions sunk under the weight of strain,
There is nothing to gain,
Only more unending pain.

Subterranean soul hiding from the world,
To scared to show itself again,
The risk of being hurt or abused,
Perhaps from emotion I'll abstain.

The volcano of your horrors,
Always ready to blow,
To inflict mortal and emotional wounds,
Leaving burnt and scarred remains down below.

Where did all the rainbows go?
The sunlight, the love, the joy?
In your presence I'm too scared to look for them,
For again I may be your toy.

The music is harder to hear now,
The birdsong a distant memory,
I struggle on so valiantly,
Longing for my soul to be set free.

So sick of the fear,
The dark emotions you bring forth,
Trying to reduce me to obscurity,
And devalue all sense of self worth.

Your third and fourth hands,
They smother me,
Attempting to squeeze off my life,
To strangle all beauty, oh Lord let me be!

Such beauty, life and knowledge,
Why is it a threat?
Cos it's bigger and brighter than you'll ever be?
Cos it's more than you can hope to get?

I pull off the dark shrouds,
Tear down the black shutters,
If you listen hard you'll hear it,
The trembling new born sounds of life and laughter.

I open the curtains,
I do not wish to live in the dark,
I want to celebrate life with the sun,
The light of hope is the brightest spark.

I shake off all your feelings of gloom,
I embrace the good, the joys, the laughter,
I'm well on my way my dear,
To finding MY happy ever after........

Well, I couldn't see a goose egg, so let me be the first one to post.   Though I'm at a loss for words at the moment...it's been a long day. Anyways, I liked this allot, as usual...hehe! Take care Lis.

It's good to see that you have inner strength
You know what you want and have to do
And it seems like, you are doing something about it
The poem seems to be a step towards your goal
Beautiful poem Isis
thanks for the wonderful read

I love this! Your words have so much emotion in their imagery. I especially love the transition from your "entrapment" in this relationship to your "freedom" at the end. Good write! And I hope you do find your "happy ever after"  )

Isis, good strong write, I especially enjoyed
"I pull off the dark shrouds,
Tear down the black shutters,
If you listen hard you'll hear it,
The trembling new born sounds of life and laughter."
I agree with Sven and only wish to add bloom where you're planted.

Hi Isis,

Good! I like the idea of the third and fourth hand, being perhaps a fault or demand that smothers you.
Conjured a really dark sort of mood.
*thanx*

Mind if I'm late?
Quite a tale of pain and hope, Isis.  Keep writing!
