I stand by and watch you cry
The bitter words of hate have tore your life apart
As each tear falls you hate the "man" you call more and more
I feel helpless against this rage of emotions and problems
It sickens me to stand by and watch his unkind words tear at your self-esteem
Your mother was caught for 18 years by the claws of deceit and lies
Only now as she is set free
He takes you as his next victim
How I want to save you, my friend, from all your trouble and greif
I stand by and I too cry.

Sure. My best friend that lives right next to me is having a rough time. Her parents (after 18 years of mental and physcial abuse) are getting a devorice. Well tonight I answered the door and she was standing there crying. Her father called over to my house....After about 15 minutes of her tearful screams and fighting with her dad, he told her to come home. I was so enraged and upset that I sat down and wrote this....and this is what I wrote.

Ouch. Hope that all is well.
Great poem, btw. At least we get this as a product of unfortunacy.

How come some of the best poems come out of the worst pain and tradgedy? It just doesn't seem right for some reason. I mean, if all of you objectively go through all your poems, what will the happy/sad ratio be? I know that at least 98% of my poems are filled with pain, and I don't think that's right. Is it easier to write poetry when we're sad or hurting?
Awesome poem, and I sincerely hope that things will work out for everyone who is involved.

Oh, I know exactly where you're coming from. My best friend is always getting crap. I hate it, I've written poems about her before. I have one ont he board now about her. Pain makes for great art I suppose, profound happiness always seems like a dream, because it's so rare among us. It's a shame.

I hope your friend is doing better now. She is very lucky to have someone like you by her.

i think that sometimes it's easier for us to write when we are hurt. no matter what kind of torture anyone goes thru feeling the pain is the same no matter what. and when people are happy, or un-hurting, there are different levels. someone can be un-pained and not be ecstatic..they could just be in the middle.. see? but if i were your friend i'd be happy as hell to have such a great friend like you. way to stick by her...

Thanks for your replays, everyone. It does seem easier to write out of sadness. Maybe because our sadness makes happiness seem more real.
