I Miss You, Daddy

I can't quite remember the last time I laughed with you
I can't remember the last time you held me tight,
because I was your little girl....

I can't quite remember the last time we played together
I can't remember the last time you smiled,
they way you used to....

I miss the way you used to be,
the daddy every little girl would want.

I miss the way you used to laugh,
at everything I said.

I miss the way you used to say,
"this is my little baby."

I miss you, Daddy...

I miss your wisdom,
and your funny jokes...

I miss the daddy you used to be,
before you went away...

I look back on old photographs
and cry...

I see a man I don't know,
a stranger to my heart.

A man that everyone says is me,
a man that says I'll grow to be.

Even though I'm still young,
doesn't mean you have to run...

I miss you, Daddy...

I miss the strong man who used to hold me,
when I used to cry...

Everyone said that I'd grow to be,
something special to you...

Your baby girl,
your pride and joy...

Someone told me to hold you tight,
he won't always be by your side...

I brushed that aside,
no big deal, says who my daddy will leave me, for real?

So young, too young,
to understand...
The fear that would await me...

I should've held tighter,
I should've counted the days,
I should've loved every moment I was with you.

I miss the way you used to be,
when you were special,
and all for me...

When you were someone who I called my own,
when you were mine,
when you were my daddy....

Times changed,
lives are askewed,
memories fade when the sky's not blue...

"Hold tight these moments, soon they'll be your memories..."

I miss you, Daddy...

The way you used to be,
for all the world to see,
the way I used to see you,
the way I wanted to be you....

I miss you, Daddy...

All because you're you....

This poem truly touched my heart. I suppose I'm in the same position as you are in, my father left my family and things have never been the same. But everything you feel or have written in your poem, is exactly how I feel. Whenever you can relate to someone's poem, it makes life a whole lot easier knowing you're not alone. This is goin' in my library for sure. Welcome!

Wow.....sad...very very sad.
Welcome to Passions.....I'd just like to say that this poem really put a huge impact on me. The sadness within the poem is overwhelming and you wrote it quite well. very good job and I hope to see you post more often.

Buttercup:

This is a beautiful piece of writing. It is quite similar in ways to the way my family sometimes is. Welcome to Passions. I hope that you find poetry to be as beautiful a pastime as I have.

Well, I'm glad you found us! Hope you have a kick- er... butt ( ) time here, and I know you'll find support if you need it.

That was an awesome poem. That made me cry almost... I can totally feel the pain in your words, and it makes me sad that you have to go through that. I'm here if you need to talk.
