Those who know of Lo Tel will know that yes I stole a title from their song...However, I think it is a damn good title for a poem so I don't think they will mind too much if I borrow it for a little while.

  -----------------------------------------------

Teenager of the Year

Who are they?
Those simple human beings,
Wondering through their existence,
Without a care in the world?
Where do they come from?
These creatures of the night,
That skip on the stepping stones of life,
Not noticing the cracks in between.

What do they bring?
A determined mind,
Knowing how they want to express themselves,
A calling for all to listen.
Are they really human beings?
The youth of today.
The struggle for independence rages on,
Yet smiling, a perfection to beat the fight.

Are they are a betrayel against humanity?
Do they bring more than hostility?
They use their pastels and colour the world,
Mix in shades for black and white minds.
Do they volunteer their life?
A life for which is their own.
A platter of delicate food is before them,
Are you going to be the one to take it away?

Scattering their sense,
They jump over the bridges of dreams.
Quicken their pace to beat the game,
Refusing to be a pawn for a puppet masters kingdom.
It is the expression of being a person,
And the confidence of being you for you.
The ever changing environment,
Means that they too can adapt.

They run,
They Smile,
They breathe,
They are human.
They go through what you have,
The experiences are all the same.
The radiant glow of their spirits,
Make them all Teenagers of the Year.

Hey... very very VERY well done AF!
I loved a lot of what you said.
This line got me-

"A platter of delicate food is before them,
Are you going to be the one to take it away?"

Very excellent poem.  I loved it, absolutely.

I liked this one. It's hard being a teenager. If you think about it......been a teen (13-19) is basically cramming a life time of bodily changes, emotional changes, and mental stability in a 7yrs. A lifetime in 7yrs!
You gotta be a strong person to deal with it....and that's why we're all.....teenagers of the year.
Ooooooo OOOooooo.......good one anon...me likes.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I'm in love with my shadow
I admire it daily

Thankyou all for your replies. It is always such an honour to recive great compliments from such fantastic writers.

Its an interesting way of looking at the teenage years Dopey. I never thought to look at it like that. Thanks for expanding the mind just that little bit further.

They say being a teenager is finding who you really are
I say you're lucky if you do
Enjoy life whether you're young or old, it's all in the state of mind you're in
just don't forget your responsibilities
