I didn't notice as I went.
I wasn't keeping score.
Each new day in its sameness, was
just like the one before.

I thought there would be many more
tomorrows in my glass.
Using it improvidently,
I idly let time pass.

The mirror now reveals to me
how older I have grown.
I'd like to have them back again,
those days I used to own.

Now that future days are fewer,
I try to crowd each one;
a simple act of kindness here
and there a bit of fun.

Storing memories while I can,
as each day passes on,
will be the way to keep them still,
when most of them have gone.

Joyce,

EMILY: "It goes so fast. We don't have time to look at one another. I didn't realize. So all that was going on and we never noticed. ......Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it - every, every minute?"

STAGE MANAGER: No. (Pause) The saints and poets, maybe, they do some."

...from Thornton Wilder's "Our Town".

So poets are in good company, it seems. Thanks for the quote. Joyce
