Adrift

Once the world shown bright
All things were possible to you
Your ship sailed to many shores
Seeking adventures and riches.

You sailed for Utopia
A new life you wished to make
But wound up in torrential seas
Adrift seeking a safe harbor

The wind blown from your sails
You're treading in a misty storm
You've lost your bearings
And long for the distant shores

It seems an eternity since
You've seen a fresh clear day
You were set adrift off course
Between huge waves of troubles

The storm makes you weary
Your spirit is tattered and forlorn
The waves crash over the sides
Water streaming from your portholes

You've tread the troubled waters
For what seems forever to you now
Fatigue grasps you during the fight
But you handle the task with fortitude

Off in the distance you see the light
It's there! It's not! You must rest
There it is again. Faint though true
The Beacon flashes; shadows vanish

You turn to face the shore
Wondering what was so unique
It wasn't a star in the sky
It was fixed on the horizon

No matter from what direction
You approach the beacon
It won't be right or wrong
This soon will become evident.

The beacon is the goal
The end without the means
Set your course and begin
The Beacon is your prize

You wish for the safe harbor
Where all was right with you
The world was wide open
And you thrived in living

Sail towards the light, your goal
Make the reward for you true.
Set your course and begin
Soon you will reach the jetties

You've drifted off course
And you feel you're up the creek
Focus again on the beacon
Reset your speed and course

In time you'll reach safe haven
Having weathered this storm
Your structure to be nurtured
Reinforced for life's voyage

Very well done I enjoyed this very much!

The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges.

Thank you ethome and kethry. I took a friends words of dispair and turned them about so they could see what they have related to me.

Oh, yes, I can read the experiences, almost sense them palpably actually. Thank you for sharing so eloquently...and may the Beacon continue to shine brightly!
